What is ARMHS and how can it help?

What Is ARMHS?

ARMHS services are specifically designed to equip individuals with the skills and coping strategies needed to foster greater independence and effectively manage the complexities arising from their mental health conditions. The array of services offered can encompass tasks such as medication management, enhancements in daily living skills, facilitating access to community resources, the cultivation of social and communication proficiencies, and the establishment and pursuit of personal goals related to mental health and well-being.

Healing Family Services offers an Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS) program tailored to provide comprehensive support and rehabilitative assistance for adults facing daily life challenges associated with mental health diagnoses. Our services are primarily delivered within the individual’s home and community environment, with a central objective of enhancing their mental health and overall functionality.

Our overarching mission within the framework of ARMHS is to encourage recovery and the cultivation of resilience, empowering individuals with mental health diagnoses to lead more gratifying lives and actively participate in their communities. Our services are typically administered by highly trained mental health professionals and dedicated paraprofessionals who work in close collaboration with individuals to address their distinctive needs and challenges. It is important to note that the specifics of services rendered and eligibility criteria may vary according to your state or region, making it imperative to reach out to local mental health authorities or service providers for precise information regarding ARMHS within your area.

What Are The Criteria To Qualify For ARMHS?

To qualify for Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS), individuals typically need to meet specific criteria:

  1. Age: You must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for ARMHS services. This is because ARMHS is designed for adults.
  2. Mental Health Diagnosis: To qualify, you generally need to have at least one mental health diagnosis. This diagnosis is typically made by a licensed mental health professional, such as a psychiatrist, psychologist, or licensed clinical social worker. The diagnosis should demonstrate the presence of a mental health condition that affects your daily functioning and quality of life.
  3. Identifying Goals: You should be able to identify at least three different goals or areas in which you’d like to work with the assistance of ARMHS. These goals should relate to improving your mental health and functioning in various aspects of your life. The identification of goals helps customize the services to your specific needs.

  3. Housing and Financial Stability: We work towards helping individuals secure and sustain stable housing, gain access to financial support, and develop efficient budgeting skills, thereby ensuring a secure and nurturing living environment.
  4. Community Engagement: Our objective is to make individuals feel more comfortable and secure when participating in community activities, which include tasks like grocery shopping, accessing goods and services, and efficiently using public transportation.
  5. Relationship Building: We are dedicated to helping individuals cultivate healthy relationships and enhance their communication skills, as we believe that fostering positive social connections is fundamental to overall well-being.
  6. Educational and Vocational Support: Our goal is to assist individuals in identifying and overcoming obstacles related to pursuing education or employment opportunities. This involves supporting job searches, resume building, and skill development to achieve educational and vocational goals.

The Difference Between Traditional Therapy And ARMHS?

Traditional therapy focuses on talking about and processing your experiences, thoughts, and feelings to help you change and improve your quality of life.
This generally occurs in an office or by Telehealth.
Sessions are generally limited to 1 time a week for 60 minutes total.
VS
ARMHS focuses on teaching you to resolve immediate problems to help you change and improve your quality of life.
This generally occurs in your home, community or by Telehealth.
Sessions can occur multiple times a week for a total of up to 5 hours a week.

How Does ARMHS Work?

In a typical session, an ARMHS worker will arrive at your home and spend anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours working with you to achieve your goals. During this time ARMHS will coach you to do things like:

  • Identifying and understanding your mental health symptoms and the impairments caused by them.
  • Learning and practicing skills to address the impairments caused by your mental health symptoms.
  • Applying those skills in real life situations to achieve your personal goals.
  • Assessing what worked and what didn’t work with you to do better next time.

Important things to remember about ARMHS.

The success of ARMHS is largely determined by the quality of the relationship between you and your ARMHS worker. It is important for both parties to feel comfortable and have respect for each other.
ARMHS is not a crisis service, case management, or direct care services. ARMHS works to support your learning to handle problems independently or to connect you with services to address needs you can’t address yourself.
If the relationship with your worker is not comfortable and respectful, please contact our Treatment Supervisor to address the issue directly or find a new worker for you.
